Welcome to my web site all about match angling which, since the day my dad took me fishing to Tyas Hall Farm ponds to catch sticklebacks at the age of 6 until I stopped a few years ago at the age of 40 to spend more time with my two lads who are football mad and both play Saturday and Sunday , If I carried on fishing  every weekend. I felt I would be missing out on seeing them growing up and  I could not have given my team Daiwa Goldthorpe the commitment they deserved and to justify getting sponsored by the Tackle giant  Daiwa

When the lads have finished playing I shall fish matches again but if it is with a team I don't know as the commitment you have to give is tremendous, so I might go back to Highgate club and relive my early days again where I was as keen as mustard and won loads of matches before I went on to join my longtime friend Keith Dowle at Smithies A.C.

Match Fishing  What's the Buzz    Click

While match fishing I met some smashing people and can not remember ever having wrong words with anyone as all anglers seem to treat each other as equals and are all on the same wave length regarding life. Where, while I have not been fishing I took up Golf and the majority of golfers just seem to be bothered about how much they earn and when the new car is being delivered.

After I had got over the nightclub and Totty years I was asked to join Highgagate club by another good club angler called Jack Lockett who I met while working at International Harvesters ,Doncaster. We shared our winnings and even ran a book on the coach and finished 1 and 2 more than once , I had just got married and paid for our first 3 piece suite out of my winnings {and no it wasn't a bannana box }even winning 6 out of 6 although 3 at the end of the season and the first 3 at the start of a new one .  While at  Highgate I also met Russ Fowler who was late into match fishing due to playing football at a decent level but he was the quickest learner I ever knew and Russ became a good friend and fishing companion for the next 18 years.

I have looked at some really professional web sites which look at hooks, ground baits, rods, lines, floats and results but I bet all you match anglers know what you like best and how to mix ground bait ect .While I have not been fishing I meet up with anglers from around and we always finish up reminiscing about the good old days so I came up with this Idea so people can go back in time and send me stories from the past which might be funny for anglers to share who visit this site so have a look and send ideas , tips ,how waters are fishing or anything that might be funny such as a before and after photo ,or anything interesting , as well as how to fish waters around you so visiting teams in semi and finals of winter leagues and nationals can save some time finding out methods when you locals can tell us your secrets of the water instead of wasting days practicing { unless your team is participating}.

Much of my notes are from around my area but it does not matter where you are from as I hope anglers from all over the country will send memorabilia for us all to read. I have started off some pages off with tips,. stories and adverts so send anything what you want and lets have a laugh

This site will be interesting to those who fished in the 70s until the introduction of the carp ponds where you can see people winning who could never have won a match,  where as in the early team and match competitions the mans ability to hunt, track and capture the wild, came into the competition ,Wondering ,if the fish was feeding with Hunger or cautiously having fed enough on the summers natural offerings. As I Call it when Fishing was Fishing
